4K Enrollment Window: Opens April 1, 2024

Family Letter: Oshkosh 4K Enrollment Information for 2024-2025

Enrollment in Oshkosh’s free 4K program is an online process that opens on April 1, 2024. Please follow the registration instructions below (or in the above letter) based on if you are a current OASD family, new to the OASD, or if you are unable to complete the online process.

Once enrolled, parents/guardians will receive additional information, including where their child will attend 4K. The OASD will have nine 4K sites in the 2024-2025 school year - located in a few elementary schools, childcare centers, Head Start, and private preschools. 

How to Enroll Online:

• OASD Families (who already have school-aged children in an OASD school): 
  • If you currently have students enrolled in the OASD, go to your IC Parent Portal to complete the annual enrollment/registration process, beginning April 1, 2024. You will be able to register your new 4K child and current students. (NOTE: The enrollment link will not be active until April 1.)
• New Families (who do not yet have children in an OASD school):
  • If you are new to the OASD and do not have any students already enrolled in the District, click Enroll Now, beginning April 1, 2024. (NOTE: The enrollment link will not be active until April 1.)
     

In-person 4K Registration Day: April 11, 2024

If you do not have access to a computer or if you need help completing the online process, please attend the In-Person 4K Registration Day on April 11, 2024  at the OASD Administration Office (215 S Eagle Street). Parents/guardians are able to attend anytime from 4 - 7 p.m. Staff will be available to help you complete the process and collect any needed paperwork.

Oshkosh prides itself on having a community-based collaborative 4K program. Collectively, we have 9 4K sites for the 24-25 school year, with 31 half-day sessions available (AM or PM). These sites include elementary schools, childcare centers, Head Start, and private preschools. 

The Oshkosh Area School District uses the steps listed below for our 4K placement process:

1. Children who attend a daycare/childcare site that has 4K will be placed at that site.
    
2. Groups of children will attend the same 4K site based on neighborhood or daycare location.

• 4K neighborhood boundaries are different than K-12 boundaries and shift each year to keep class sizes balanced.
  • Your child's home school for kindergarten may not be their home school for 4K. 
• Students placed based on their daytime address will be eligible for bussing.
• We will balance class sizes throughout the entire 4K program.
  • Integrated Programs (in the afternoon) will have at least 10 regular education students and no more than 8 special education students.
• All 4K classrooms have a 24 student maximum.
• Child licensing requirements related to space determine number of students in each site.

3. Specific parent placement requests will be considered after the steps listed above.

Additional 4K Placement Information

• Students are placed either based on their daytime address or by request. If a student's daytime address is a childcare location that contains an Oshkosh Area School District 4K classroom, they will be placed at that site.
• If a student's daytime address is a different childcare location, home address or friend/family member's address, guardians have the option to either request transportation to and from that address OR request a specific site.
• If a specific site is requested, the student is not eligible for transportation.
• We encourage all families who believe they may need transportation to request it at the beginning of the year in order to avoid transitioning to a new site for transportation reasons mid-year. However, transportation routes can be up to one hour each way so this should also be taken into consideration when determining whether a specific location or transportation will be requested.
• The request process for either your student's childcare location, transportation or a specific location is completed by submitting a Google Form that will be emailed once all online registration components have been completed. 

The following documents/information must be uploaded during the online 4K Enrollment process OR verified during the 4K In-person Registration Day: 

1. Proof of birth date - Legal documentation that contains student’s full name, birthdate, gender, place of birth, and parent/ guardian information (e.g. original birth certificate, hospital record, child ID card, Native American Tribal document).  A child must be four years old on or before 09/01/2023. State law requires that the birth date be verified at the time of enrollment.

2. Parent/Legal Guardian’s current driver’s license or state ID - In addition, if the parent on the birth certificate is not enrolling the student, legal guardianship papers are required or a Power of Attorney Form needs to be completed, notarized, and submitted.
    
3. Proof of Residency - Examples include: deed of trust, last year’s real estate tax receipt, utility bill, credit card statement, current apartment or house lease in parent’s name. If the parent or guardian is not listed on the documents, however he/she is married to the owner/ leaseholder/ renter, a copy of the marriage license must be provided.
    
4. Confidential Student Immunization record - Be sure to enter the complete date (month-day-year, e.g. 03/01/18) or bring a copy of your child’s immunization records. Note: Parents can access the Wisconsin Immunization Registry to obtain a copy of their child’s immunization records at https://www.dhs.wisconsin.gov/immunization/wir.htm. Wisconsin state law requires this information. 
    
5. Health Examination Record - Please have your doctor complete and sign this form based on your child’s four-year-old check-up. They are welcome to fax it to the Office of Early Learning. If your child has not had their four-year-old check-up yet, please ask your doctor to fax it after their appointment. We will need to obtain a copy no later than 09/29/2024.
